Bed Bugs are found in motels, hotels, and boarding houses where travelers stay overnight. They are also found in schools, day cares, doctor’s offices and office buildings, public transportation, and anywhere else people congregate. Bed bugs can survive long periods of time without feeding. They are opportunist and transfer from place to place via people and animals. Once a person pick up one or more and go home not knowing that they have done so, it may take a day or so for it to establish itself. At this point you start noticing bites. Once it starts laying eggs, the adult that has already fed on a person or animal will leave droppings of digested blood for the babies to feed on until they start traveling to a feeding source.
After the biting starts, you may also see brownish streaks on your bed linen. This is due to the bugs being crushed during movement of persons in sleep. These bugs usually hide in the seams of a mattress and in the box springs. Unless you know what to look for in the box springs, the bugs and nest will be hard to spot. They multiply every week so serious infestations do not take long. It is important to get professional help as soon as you suspect that you may have them.
